After a ton of rumors, speculations and lengthy promotional campaign the OnePlus has finally launched the much awaited flagship smartphone OnePlus 6T yesterday at an event held in New York City. As previous OnePlus models the the OnePlus 6T also promises to offer the flagship experience with uncompromising build and features at a affordable price which has always been the motto of OnePlus. It seems the most important improvements in the novelty are in hardware and software, the OnePlus 6T now feature a display with improved screen to body ratio, thanks to the new water drop notch design, while it is also equipped with the whole new in-display fingerprint scanner which could unlock the device in as little as a third of second.
The OnePlus 6T feature 6.4-inch Optic AMOLED display (~85.6% screen-to-body ratio) with a resolution of 2280 x 1080, with an aspect ratio of 19:9 (~402 ppi density). The OnePlus 6T also has visibly smaller top and bottom bezels than its predecessor, thanks in part to the new notch whereas the body of the device is made out of glass (Gorilla Glass 6 protection at the back as well as front) and aluminum frame which makes it more lighter without compromising on durability. The FP sensor appears to be of the optical variety, meaning that light from the display illuminates your finger as it is being read. This is the same technology utilized in the Huawei Mate 20 Pro, so it’s not entirely new. However, the OnePlus 6T will be the first phone launched in the US with this feature on board. The reader can be used for Android Pay transactions, in case you’re wondering
OnePlus 6T is powered by Snapdragon 845 processor coupled with multiple variant of RAM and internal storage like 6GB RAM + 128GB internal storage, 8GB RAM + 128GB internal storage and 8GB RAM+256GB internal storage options, but has no option for microSD expansion as usual. The OnePlus 6T will run on Android 9 Pie out of the box with OxygenOS on the top which incorporate OnePlus’ own gesture system (quite similar to Apple’s gesture-based navigation), Android 9 Pie’s native (pill) gesture navigation and the old three-button navigation. There are some other software features like Reading mode, Gaming mode,Smart Boost etc. The updates in Gaming mode will lock the screen brightness during gaming, give you more control on notifications and limit data usage of other apps whereas Smart Boost is said to improve app cold start speed by keeping certain app data in the RAM but for now, this only supposed to work for certain games only. The device will pack 3700mAh battery, a 12% upgrade over the 3,300mAh unit found in the OnePlus 6 and is charged over the fast Dash Charge 20W(5V at 4A),still there’s no wireless charging support despite the glass back.
The camera department features a dual rear camera setup with 16MP primary sensor with an aperture of f/1.7 , 1.22um pixels (that is 19 % increase which brings more light into the sensor with less noise) with support for OIS,EIS and the 20MP secondary sensor with a higher aperture of f/1.7. There is also 16 MP front camera with an aperture of f/2.0 for selfies, it is also uses an AI to create the Portrait mode’s bokeh .
